Overview

The National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) for BPL Families in Haryana is a state-implemented central scheme under the National Social Assistance Programme. It provides a one-time cash benefit to Below Poverty Line households following the death of the primary income earner of the family.

Objective

The scheme aims to provide immediate financial relief to poor families that lose their primary breadwinner. It helps the household cope with sudden income loss and prevent a deeper fall into poverty during a period of crisis.

Eligibility

Exclusions

• Families above the poverty line are not eligible
• Deaths of persons above 60 or below 18 years may not qualify
• Households that have already received the benefit for a previous breadwinner death

Application Process

1. Surviving family member applies at the Block Development Office or District Social Welfare Office
2. Application form is filled with death certificate and BPL documentation
3. Block officer verifies the application and BPL status
4. Approved cases are forwarded to the district-level authority
5. Benefit is transferred directly to the bank account of the applicant
