India Semiconductor Stocks 2026: Government Incentives and Investment Opportunities

India’s Semiconductor Vision
India’s National Policy on Electronics targets a $300 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem by 2026. The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has approved several semiconductor fabrication projects with government subsidies of up to 50% of project cost. The goal: reduce dependence on imports (currently 85%+ of chips are imported) and build indigenous semiconductor capability.
Key Government Initiatives
| Initiative | Details | Budget |
|---|---|---|
| India Semiconductor Mission | Subsidise fab, OSAT, and display fabs | ₹76,000 Cr (₹10 Bn) |
| PLI for IT Hardware | Laptops, tablets, servers manufactured in India | ₹17,000 Cr |
| PLI for Electronics Components | Capacitors, resistors, PCBs | ₹23,000 Cr |
| Approved Fab Projects | Tata Electronics-PSMC, CG Power-Renesas | ₹1.5 lakh Cr investments |
Semiconductor & Electronics Stocks to Watch
| Company | Segment | Listed? | Thesis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Electronics (unlisted) | Semiconductor fab (OSAT + display) | Not yet listed | Tata group; major OSAT + iPhone manufacturing |
| CG Power & Industrial | Semiconductor OSAT (partnership with Renesas) | NSE/BSE | First listed company in India fab space |
| Kaynes Technology | Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) | NSE/BSE | Fast-growing EMS with semiconductor packaging |
| SPEL Semiconductor | Legacy semiconductor assembler | NSE/BSE | Small cap; benefits from PLI support |
| Dixon Technologies | EMS — phones, IT hardware, appliances | NSE/BSE | Largest EMS player; massive PLI beneficiary |
Realistic Timeline for India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem
Semiconductor fabs take 3–5 years from groundbreaking to production. First Made-in-India chips from the approved fabs are expected by 2027-28. Investors should expect a multi-year horizon with near-term revenues coming from OSAT (packaging and testing) rather than advanced chip fabrication.
