Sanitary Marts Scheme for Safai Karamcharis | NSKFDC

Overview

The Sanitary Marts Scheme is implemented by the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It provides loan support to Safai Karamcharis and their dependents to establish shops selling sanitation-related products.

Objective

The scheme aims to provide dignified livelihood alternatives to manual scavengers and sanitation workers by enabling them to set up retail businesses in the sanitation sector. It promotes economic self-reliance and social upliftment.

Eligibility

  • Safai Karamcharis, manual scavengers, and their dependents
  • Applicants must belong to the Scheduled Caste community or be identified as sanitation workers
  • Annual family income should be within prescribed limits
  • Applicant must be between 18 and 55 years of age

Exclusions

  • Applicants who have already availed similar loans from NSKFDC or other government corporations
  • Those with existing loan defaults under any government scheme
  • Applicants not registered or identified as Safai Karamcharis under relevant surveys

Application Process

  1. Apply through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs) under NSKFDC
  2. Obtain and fill the prescribed loan application form
  3. Submit form with supporting documents to the SCA
  4. SCA verifies the application and forwards it to NSKFDC
  5. Loan is sanctioned and disbursed upon approval

  • Income certificate
  • Proof of identity as Safai Karamchari
  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank passbook copy
  • Business plan or project report for the sanitary mart
  • Passport-size photographs
