Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for Coir Workers
Overview
The Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for Coir Workers is implemented by the Coir Board under the Ministry of MSME. It provides insurance coverage to coir industry workers against accidental death and permanent disability, offering financial security to workers and their families.
Objective
The scheme aims to protect coir workers from the financial impact of accidents that occur during work or in daily life. Given the physically demanding nature of coir production, this safety net is essential for worker welfare.

- Coverage of Rs. 1 lakh for accidental death
- Compensation for permanent total or partial disability
- Low or no premium contribution from the worker
- Benefit disbursed directly to nominee or worker
- Coverage for accidents both at the workplace and outside
Eligibility
- Workers registered with the Coir Board
- Workers engaged in coir yarn spinning, coir product manufacturing, or related activities
- Applicants must be between 18 and 60 years of age
- Primarily covers workers in coir-producing states, especially Kerala
Exclusions
- Death or disability resulting from self-inflicted injury or suicide
- Accidents caused by influence of alcohol or drugs
- Pre-existing medical conditions not related to an accident
- Workers not registered under the Coir Board
Application Process
- Register as a coir worker with the nearest Coir Board regional office
- Enrollment in the insurance scheme is done by the Coir Board on behalf of workers
- In the event of an accident, notify the Coir Board office immediately
- Submit a claim form along with medical or death documentation
- Claim is processed and compensation disbursed after verification

- Aadhaar card
- FIR or accident report (for accidental death or disability claims)
- Medical reports from a certified doctor
- Death certificate (for nominee claims)
- Bank account details of worker or nominee
