Janshree Bima Yojana for Khadi Artisans India
Overview
The Janshree Bima Yojana for Khadi Artisans is a central government life insurance scheme extended to workers engaged in Khadi production. It provides affordable insurance coverage to artisans who typically work in informal settings and lack access to standard insurance products.
The scheme is implemented through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) with LIC of India as the insurer, ensuring a trusted and widespread delivery mechanism.
Objective
The scheme aims to bring Khadi artisans, most of whom come from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, under the formal insurance umbrella. It protects their families against financial hardship in the event of death or disability.
It also reinforces the government’s support for the Khadi sector by ensuring artisans have a basic social security foundation.
Benefits
- Natural death benefit for the registered nominee
- Higher benefit payout in case of accidental death
- Disability benefit for partial or total permanent disability
- Scholarship component for children of insured artisans under Shiksha Sahyog Yojana
