Overview

Pradhan Mantri Vidyalaxmi (PM-Vidyalaxmi) is a central government scheme launched to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent meritorious students from accessing quality higher education. It provides collateral-free education loans and interest benefits to eligible students through a unified digital portal.

Objective

The scheme aims to democratise access to higher education by ensuring that every deserving student can secure finance regardless of their family’s economic background. It simplifies the loan process through a single online application platform.

Benefits

  • Collateral-free loans up to a specified limit
  • Full interest subvention during the course period for students from families below the income threshold
  • 3% interest subvention for students with family income up to Rs 8 lakh per annum
  • Covers tuition fees and other educational expenses
  • Applicable for admissions in Quality Higher Education Institutions (QHEIs)

Eligibility

  • Indian student admitted to a recognised QHEI through a merit-based process
  • Annual family income within the limit prescribed by the scheme
  • Must apply through the PM-Vidyalaxmi portal
  • Course must be a full-time graduate or postgraduate programme

Exclusions

  • Students admitted through management quota to private institutions may face restrictions
  • Courses not recognised under QHEI classification are not covered
  • Students already availing similar central government interest subvention schemes
  • Part-time or correspondence courses are generally not eligible

Application Process

  1. Visit the official PM-Vidyalaxmi portal at vidyalaxmi.co.in
  2. Register with a valid Aadhaar-linked mobile number
  3. Fill the unified application form and select a participating bank
  4. Upload all required documents digitally
  5. The bank processes the application and sanctions the loan
  6. Interest subvention benefit is applied automatically during the moratorium period

  • Academic records (10th, 12th, and graduation marksheets as applicable)
