Pashu Bima Yojana – Livestock Insurance Scheme Bihar

Overview

Pashu Bima Yojana is a livestock insurance scheme run by the Government of Bihar. It provides financial protection to farmers and animal owners against the death of cattle and other livestock due to disease, accident, or natural causes.

The scheme is particularly important for small and marginal farmers in Bihar whose livelihoods depend heavily on their animals.

Objective

The objective is to protect the economic interests of livestock owners in Bihar. Insurance coverage ensures that the sudden death of an animal does not push farmers into financial distress or debt.

Eligibility

• Farmer or animal owner residing in Bihar
• Should own the animal to be insured
• Animal must be identified with an ear tag at the time of enrollment
• BPL, SC/ST, and small/marginal farmers get priority and higher subsidy
• Animal must be in good health at enrollment

Exclusions

• Animals that are already sick at the time of enrollment are not covered
• Death due to negligence or mistreatment is not compensated
• Animals without ear tags at the time of death claim cannot be processed
• Non-resident of Bihar cannot enroll in the scheme

Application Process

1. Visit the nearest Animal Husbandry Department office in your block or district
2. Fill the livestock insurance enrollment form
3. Pay the farmer’s share of the premium
4. Officials tag the animal with an ear tag
5. Insurance certificate is issued for each animal
