NPS Vatsalya Scheme National Pension System for Children
Overview
NPS Vatsalya is a National Pension System (NPS) scheme designed for minors, introduced by the Ministry of Finance. It allows parents or guardians to open an NPS account in a child’s name and make contributions that grow over time, giving the child a head start on retirement savings.
When the child turns 18, the account transitions to a regular NPS account under the subscriber’s name.
Objective
The scheme aims to cultivate a savings and pension culture from an early age. By starting contributions in childhood, it builds a significantly larger retirement corpus than accounts opened later in life, thanks to the power of long-term compounding.
