Overview
The New Swarnima Scheme is a central government initiative run by the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC). It provides financial assistance specifically to women from Scheduled Caste communities to support self-employment activities.
The scheme is designed to empower women by giving them access to credit without the challenges of traditional bank lending.
Objective
The scheme aims to promote economic independence among SC women. By providing affordable loans, it helps women set up small enterprises, reduce poverty, and gain social dignity through financial self-reliance.
Benefits
- Loan up to Rs. 2 lakh per beneficiary
- Concessional interest rate of 5% per annum
- Repayment period up to 5 years
- Channeled through State Channelizing Agencies (SCAs)
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a woman from a Scheduled Caste family
- Age should be 18 years or above
- Annual family income should be within the prescribed poverty threshold
- Must have a viable self-employment plan
- Should not be a defaulter on any previous government loan
Exclusions
- Women from non-SC communities are not covered
- Applicants with family income above the set limit are excluded
- Non-productive or speculative activities are not financed
- Those with prior defaults on government-backed loans are ineligible
Application Process
- Contact the State Channelizing Agency (SCA) in your state
- Collect and fill the application form
- Submit with supporting documents
- SCA verifies the application and forwards it to NSFDC
- On approval, the loan is disbursed through the SCA
