Overview
The Matrimonial Incentives scheme in Maharashtra provides financial assistance to couples who enter into inter-caste marriages, particularly when one partner belongs to a Scheduled Caste. The scheme is implemented by the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department of Maharashtra.
Objective
The scheme promotes social harmony and reduces caste discrimination by encouraging inter-caste marriages. Financial assistance helps newly married couples set up their household and signals state support for breaking caste barriers.
Benefits
- Financial incentive of Rs 50,000 for inter-caste marriages
- The benefit is provided to couples where one partner is from a Scheduled Caste
- Amount is disbursed as a fixed deposit or directly to the couple’s joint bank account
- State government may periodically revise the incentive amount
Eligibility
- One partner must belong to a Scheduled Caste and the other to a non-SC Hindu community
- Both partners must be Indian citizens and residents of Maharashtra
- The marriage must be legally registered under the Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act
- Application must be made within the prescribed time from the date of marriage
Exclusions
- Marriages between two SC individuals do not qualify as inter-caste under this scheme
- Couples who have previously availed this incentive cannot claim it again
- Marriages not registered with government authorities
- Couples where both partners belong to the same caste or community
Application Process
- Visit the District Social Welfare Office in your district in Maharashtra
- Obtain and fill in the application form for Matrimonial Incentives
- Attach all required marriage and identity documents
- Submit the form within the stipulated time limit after marriage
- District office verifies all documents and approves the application
- Incentive amount is credited to the couple’s bank account
