Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) is a major social welfare scheme of the Government of Odisha. It provides monthly financial assistance to elderly persons, widows, and persons with disabilities who have no stable income source. Named after the freedom fighter Madhusudan Das, it remains one of Odisha’s most impactful and widely known social protection programs.

Objective

The scheme aims to ensure a basic standard of living for the most vulnerable sections of Odisha’s population. It provides a regular income to those who cannot earn for themselves due to age, disability, or the loss of a family breadwinner, reducing poverty and social exclusion.

Eligibility

  • Annual family income below the prescribed poverty line threshold

Exclusions

  • Those already receiving pension from any other central or state government source
  • Individuals with regular employment income or stable livelihood sources
  • Persons who do not meet the minimum residency period in Odisha

Application Process

  1. Visit the Block Development Officer (BDO) or Urban Local Body (ULB) office
  2. Obtain and fill the MBPY application form at the office counter
  3. Attach all required supporting documents
  4. Application is verified by local officials through field inspection
  5. Approved beneficiaries receive their pension through direct benefit transfer
