Overview

The Compensation in Animal Death scheme is a Gujarat state government initiative that provides financial compensation to farmers when their livestock dies due to natural causes, accidents, or disease. The scheme helps farmers recover from the sudden economic loss of a valuable farm animal.

It is implemented through the Animal Husbandry Department of Gujarat.

Objective

The scheme aims to protect farmers from the financial shock of losing livestock, which for many farming households represents a significant portion of their productive assets. It helps them stabilize their livelihoods and recover faster.

Eligibility

Exclusions

• Deaths due to negligence or deliberate harm are excluded from compensation
• Animals not registered or without proof of ownership may not qualify
• Claims filed after the prescribed reporting window may be rejected
• Farmers who have already received insurance payout for the same animal death are not entitled to double compensation

Application Process

1. Immediately report the animal death to the local veterinary officer or taluka animal husbandry office
2. Get a post-mortem or veterinary report confirming the cause of death
3. Fill in the compensation application form
4. Submit the form along with required documents to the taluka or district animal husbandry office
5. After verification, the compensation is credited to the farmer’s bank account
