Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Maharashtra – Life Insurance BPL Rural
Overview
Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) in Maharashtra is a life insurance scheme for rural households living below the poverty line (BPL). It is implemented by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in partnership with the state government.
The scheme provides basic life and accidental insurance coverage to the earning member of BPL rural families at zero or minimal premium cost to the beneficiary.
Objective
The objective is to extend insurance protection to the most economically vulnerable rural families in Maharashtra. It ensures that the sudden death or disability of a breadwinner does not leave the family financially devastated.
Benefits
- Rs. 30,000 cover for natural death
- Rs. 75,000 for accidental death or permanent total disability
- Rs. 37,500 for permanent partial disability
- Scholarship benefit for children (up to 2 children) studying in Class 9 to 12
- Premium funded by the state and central governments
Eligibility
- The head of a BPL household in rural areas of Maharashtra
- Age: 18 to 59 years
- Should belong to one of the 48 notified occupational groups covered under AABY
- Family must be listed in the BPL register of the respective Gram Panchayat
- One member per household can be enrolled
Exclusions
- Urban BPL families are not covered under the rural component
- Families with income above BPL threshold are excluded
- Persons above 59 years of age are not eligible
- Already covered under any other LIC group insurance scheme
Application Process
- Approach the Gram Panchayat or designated Nodal Agency in your village
- Nodal Agency submits the eligible list to LIC
- No individual application required; enrollment is done in bulk by the nodal agency
- LIC issues the master policy and membership certificates
- Claims can be filed through the Nodal Agency with required documents

- Passport-size photographs
- Bank account details for claim settlement
- Death certificate and FIR (for accidental death claims)
