What is an e-PAN Card?
An e-PAN is the electronic version of your PAN (Permanent Account Number) card. Issued by the Income Tax Department of India, it serves as a valid proof of identity and is accepted for all financial and official transactions. The e-PAN is delivered in PDF format and can be downloaded online.
Who Can Apply for an Instant e-PAN?
You are eligible for an instant e-PAN if:
- You are an Indian citizen.
- You do not already have a PAN.
- You possess a valid Aadhaar number.
- Your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar.
Note: This facility is available only for individuals, not for companies or firms.
How to Apply for an Instant e-PAN
Follow these simple steps to apply for an instant e-PAN:
- Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Portal: Go to https://www.incometax.gov.in/.
- Click on ‘Instant e-PAN’: Under the ‘Quick Links’ section on the homepage, select ‘Instant e-PAN’.
- Select ‘Get New e-PAN’: Choose this option to initiate the application process.
- Enter Your Aadhaar Number: Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number and accept the terms and conditions.
- Verify with OTP: An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter this OTP to verify your identity.
- Submit the Application: After verification, your e-PAN will be generated and allotted.
Note: The e-PAN is usually issued within 10 minutes of successful verification.
How to Download Your e-PAN
Once your e-PAN is generated, you can download it by following these steps:
- Visit the Income Tax e-Filing Portal: Go to https://www.incometax.gov.in/.
- Click on ‘Instant e-PAN’: Under the ‘Quick Links’ section, select ‘Instant e-PAN’.
- Select ‘Check Status/Download PAN’: Choose this option to proceed.
- Enter Your Aadhaar Number: Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number and continue.
- Verify with OTP: An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter this OTP to verify.
- Download e-PAN: Once verified, you can view or download your e-PAN in PDF format.
Note: The PDF file is password-protected. The password is your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format.
Alternative Methods to Download e-PAN
If you applied for a PAN through other portals, you can download your e-PAN as follows:
Through NSDL (Protean eGov Technologies Limited)
- Visit the NSDL e-PAN Portal: Go to https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html.
- Enter Required Details: Provide your PAN or acknowledgment number, date of birth, and captcha code.
- Verify with OTP: Choose to receive OTP on your registered mobile number or email. Enter the OTP to verify.
- Download e-PAN: After verification, download your e-PAN in PDF format.
Note: If your PAN was allotted or changes were confirmed by the Income Tax Department within the last 30 days, the e-PAN can be downloaded free of cost up to three times. After 30 days, a nominal fee of ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) is applicable.
Through UTIITSL
- Visit the UTIITSL Portal: Go to https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN/.
- Navigate to ‘Download e-PAN’: Click on the ‘Download e-PAN’ option.
- Enter Required Details: Provide your PAN, date of birth, GSTIN (if applicable), and captcha code.
- Submit and Verify: Click ‘Submit’ and choose to receive OTP on your registered mobile number or email. Enter the OTP to verify.
- Download e-PAN: After successful verification, download your e-PAN in PDF format.
Note: The e-PAN can be downloaded free of cost within 30 days of allotment. After 30 days, a fee of ₹8.26 (inclusive of taxes) is applicable.
Opening the e-PAN PDF
The downloaded e-PAN PDF is password-protected. To open it, enter your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format.
