Form 12B

Form 12B is a form used when you change your job in the middle of a financial year.
It helps your new employer know about the income and tax details from your previous job.

This way, your total income and tax can be calculated correctly, and you avoid extra tax or refund issues later.

Why is Form 12B Important?

  1. Avoids Double Tax Deduction: Without this form, both old and new employers may deduct tax without knowing the full picture.
  2. Correct Tax Calculation: Helps your new employer compute TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) properly.
  3. Smoother ITR Filing: All income gets recorded properly under one Form 16, making filing your Income Tax Return easier.

Who Should Submit Form 12B?

  • Any salaried employee who joins a new job within the same financial year.
  • Must be submitted to the new employer, not to the Income Tax Department.

Form 12B includes details such as:

Real-Life Example

Riya switched jobs in August 2025. She filled Form 12B with her salary and tax details from April to July. Her new employer used this to deduct tax correctly for the rest of the year. At the end, she got one complete Form 16 and filed her ITR easily.
