When does an After Market Order get executed?
An AMO gets queued by the broker after you place it and then submitted to the exchange during the next session’s pre-open window, typically the 9:00 to 9:08 AM window for NSE and BSE equity, where the opening price gets determined through a call auction process. Depending on the order type and price you’ve set relative to where the pre-open auction settles, it may execute right at the opening price, execute once regular trading begins if it wasn’t matched in pre-open, or remain unfilled if your price is too far from the opening level. AMOs placed for F&O generally follow the derivative segment’s own session timing rather than the equity pre-open window, so the execution window differs by segment. You check your broker’s specific AMO cut-off time and execution window, since brokers can set slightly different acceptance windows for placing AMOs.
