What should I do if I cannot exit an open position?

First, you check why the exit order isn’t going through: is it stuck pending because your limit price hasn’t been reached, is the stock hitting a circuit limit (upper or lower) with no matching counterparty, or is there a margin or technical issue blocking the order entirely. If the stock has hit a circuit limit, especially the lower circuit on a falling stock, there may genuinely be no buyers at any price within the allowed band, and the position simply can’t be closed until the price moves back within a tradeable range or the circuit resets the next session. If it’s a platform issue, like the app freezing or an order not registering, you try the broker’s web terminal or call the dealing desk (most brokers have a phone-based emergency square-off line for exactly this situation) rather than repeatedly resubmitting an order that might duplicate. You never assume a stuck position will resolve itself without checking the specific cause, since a circuit-limit issue and a technical glitch need completely different responses.
