Should I share my trading OTP with a broker or adviser?
No, never, under any circumstances. A One-Time Password (OTP) exists specifically to verify that you, and only you, am authorising a specific action on your account, and no legitimate broker, adviser, or exchange representative will ever ask you for it over a call, message, or email. This is one of the most common tactics used in trading and demat account fraud: someone impersonates broker support or a ‘relationship manager’ and asks for the OTP to ‘verify’ or ‘help resolve’ an issue, then uses it to authorise an unauthorised transaction or account change. SEBI and every registered broker consistently and repeatedly warn against sharing OTPs, PINs, or passwords with anyone, including people claiming to represent the broker itself. If someone asks you for an OTP over the phone or through a message, you treat that as an immediate red flag and report it, rather than assuming it might be a genuine request.
