Is stock trading safe for beginners?

Stock market investing through a SEBI-registered broker, in regulated instruments, on regulated exchanges, is a legitimate and well-protected system, but that’s different from saying stock trading itself is inherently low-risk, since market prices genuinely fluctuate and losses are a real possibility regardless of how careful you are. The regulatory framework, SEBI oversight, exchange-level protections, the Investor Protection Fund for broker default scenarios, and mandatory KYC and account security measures, protects you from fraud and broker misconduct, but it doesn’t protect you from the market simply moving against a position you’ve taken. For a beginner specifically, starting with equity delivery investing in well-understood, liquid stocks tends to be a lower-risk entry point than jumping straight into intraday trading or F&O, which carry meaningfully higher risk and complexity. You’d say the system itself, if you use a properly registered broker and follow basic security practices, is safe from a fraud and infrastructure standpoint, while the actual trading or investing decisions you make within that system carry genuine market risk you need to understand and accept.
