How can I modify an open stop-loss order?
You go to the order book (usually under a tab called ‘Orders’ or ‘Pending Orders’ in the trading app) and select the specific pending stop-loss order you want to change, which opens a modify screen where you can adjust the trigger price, the limit price (for SL-L orders), or the quantity. The order has to still be in a pending, unexecuted state to be modified; once it’s triggered and converted into an active market or limit order, or once it’s already executed, modification is no longer possible, and you’d need to place a fresh order instead. Some brokers also let you modify order validity or convert between order types within limits, though this varies by platform. You confirm the modification and then check the order book again to verify the new trigger and limit price are reflected correctly, since a failed modification can sometimes leave the original order unchanged without an obvious error message.
