Top 10 Richest People in India 2026: Net Worth List

Mukesh Ambani is the richest person in India on Forbes’ 2026 World’s Billionaires list, with an estimated net worth of $99.7 billion (₹8.3 lakh crore) as of 1 March 2026. Gautam Adani ranks second at $63.8 billion (₹5.3 lakh crore), while Savitri Jindal is third with $39.1 billion (₹3.25 lakh crore) and remains India’s richest woman.

India reached a new billionaire milestone in the 2026 Forbes ranking. The country had 229 billionaires, up from 205 the previous year, and their combined wealth crossed $1 trillion (₹83 lakh crore). The ten richest Indians alone were worth about $368 billion (₹30.6 lakh crore).

Net worth figures can change significantly as stock prices, currencies and private-company valuations move. The figures below therefore represent Forbes’ annual 2026 ranking snapshot rather than live wealth estimates.

All net worth figures are Forbes estimates as of 1 March 2026.

1. Mukesh Ambani: $99.7 Billion (₹8.3 lakh crore)

Mukesh Ambani retained the number one position among India’s richest people in 2026 with an estimated fortune of $99.7 billion (₹8.3 lakh crore).

His wealth is primarily linked to Reliance Industries, one of India’s largest private-sector companies. Reliance operates across energy, petrochemicals, telecommunications, retail, digital services and other businesses.

The group’s expansion beyond its traditional oil and chemicals operations has been an important part of Ambani’s wealth story.

Forbes noted that Reliance Industries shares had gained about 12% over the preceding year, helping Ambani retain his position as both India’s richest person and Asia’s wealthiest individual on the annual ranking.

2. Gautam Adani: $63.8 Billion (₹5.3 lakh crore)

Gautam Adani ranked second with a net worth estimated at $63.8 billion (₹5.3 lakh crore).

His fortune comes primarily from the Adani Group, whose businesses span infrastructure, ports, airports, power, renewable energy and other sectors.

Infrastructure has played a particularly important role in Adani’s rise. The group’s presence across transport, logistics and energy gives it exposure to India’s expanding physical infrastructure needs.

Together, Ambani and Adani added about $14.7 billion to their combined fortunes compared with the previous Forbes ranking.

3. Savitri Jindal: $39.1 Billion (₹3.25 lakh crore)

Savitri Jindal ranked third among India’s richest people with a net worth of $39.1 billion (₹3.25 lakh crore).

She also remained the richest woman in India on Forbes’ 2026 list.

Her family’s wealth is associated with the O.P. Jindal Group, whose interests span steel, power, infrastructure and related industries.

The Jindal business empire demonstrates how India’s traditional industrial sectors continue to create some of the country’s largest family fortunes even as technology and digital companies gain prominence.

4. Lakshmi Mittal: $31 Billion (₹2.58 lakh crore)

Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal ranked fourth with a net worth of $31 billion (₹2.58 lakh crore). His fortune is closely associated with global steel producer ArcelorMittal.

Mittal was one of the biggest movers in the 2026 ranking.

Forbes reported that his fortune increased by $11.8 billion, or about 61%, compared with the previous year. Shares of ArcelorMittal had risen more than 80% since the previous ranking.

That increase made Mittal the biggest gainer among Indian billionaires in both dollar and percentage terms on the 2026 list.

His $31 billion fortune, however, remained below his estimated peak of $45 billion in 2008.

5. Shiv Nadar: $30.9 Billion (₹2.57 lakh crore)

Shiv Nadar ranked fifth with an estimated net worth of $30.9 billion (₹2.57 lakh crore).

His wealth comes from software services and his association with HCL, the technology business he co-founded.

The presence of Nadar in India’s top five highlights the enormous wealth created by India’s information technology industry.

Unlike industrial conglomerates that rely heavily on physical assets, IT service companies built global businesses around software development, outsourcing, engineering and technology services.

Nadar has also become widely associated with philanthropy and education through the Shiv Nadar Foundation.

6. Cyrus Poonawalla: $27 Billion (₹2.25 lakh crore)

Cyrus Poonawalla ranked sixth with an estimated net worth of $27 billion (₹2.25 lakh crore).

His wealth is primarily associated with vaccines and the Serum Institute of India.

The company became globally prominent during the Covid-19 pandemic because of its role in manufacturing vaccines at scale.

Healthcare wealth differs from many of the infrastructure and commodity fortunes on India’s billionaire list. Vaccine manufacturing involves scientific expertise, production scale, regulation and global distribution, creating substantial barriers to entry.

Poonawalla’s place in India’s top ten reflects the scale the family has built in the global vaccine industry.

7. Dilip Shanghvi: $25.6 Billion (₹2.13 lakh crore)

Dilip Shanghvi, founder of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, ranked seventh with an estimated net worth of $25.6 billion (₹2.13 lakh crore).

His primary source of wealth is pharmaceuticals.

Sun Pharma grew from a relatively small operation into one of India’s most prominent pharmaceutical businesses, with a major presence in domestic and international markets.

Shanghvi’s position illustrates another important feature of Indian billionaire wealth: several of the country’s largest fortunes have been created by entrepreneurs who built companies serving both Indian and global customers.

8. Kumar Birla: $21.1 Billion (₹1.75 lakh crore)

Kumar Mangalam Birla ranked eighth with a fortune estimated at $21.1 billion (₹1.75 lakh crore).

Forbes categorised commodities as his main source of wealth.

Birla leads the Aditya Birla Group, one of India’s best-known diversified business houses. Its interests include metals, cement, financial services, textiles and other industries.

The group’s long history also highlights the role of established Indian business families in the country’s modern billionaire rankings.

Rather than relying on a single business, diversified groups can generate wealth through holdings across multiple industries.

9. Radhakishan Damani: $15.7 Billion (₹1.30 lakh crore)

Radhakishan Damani ranked ninth with a net worth of $15.7 billion (₹1.30 lakh crore). Forbes lists retail and investments as the main sources of his wealth.

Damani is best known for the DMart retail chain operated by Avenue Supermarts.

His wealth story stands out because organised retail operates on relatively thin margins compared with some technology businesses. Success depends heavily on purchasing efficiency, inventory management, pricing and store economics.

Damani also built a reputation as an investor before becoming widely known for DMart.

10. Uday Kotak: $14.4 Billion (₹1.20 lakh crore)

Banker Uday Kotak entered India’s top ten in the 2026 Forbes ranking with a net worth of $14.4 billion (₹1.20 lakh crore).

Kotak founded the financial institution that developed into Kotak Mahindra Bank.

His entry into the top ten replaced property billionaire Kushal Pal Singh, who slipped to twelfth place in the 2026 ranking.

Kotak’s presence also makes banking one of the sectors represented among India’s ten largest fortunes.
