How Many Digits?
Union Bank of India (UBI) account numbers are 15 digits long. Each includes a structured format for easy identification and routing
Account Number Structure
UBI account numbers follow this layout:
Segment | Digits | What It Represents |
---|---|---|
Branch code | 1–4 | Identifies the specific UBI branch |
Account type mapping | 5–7 | Indicates the type of account |
Unique account number | 8–15 | Your individual customer account sequence |
For example:0125 | 005 | 12345678
Here, 0125
is branch code, 005
is account type code (e.g. savings), and 12345678
is the unique sequence.
Why This Format?
- Branch code (first 4 digits) directs internal routing.
- Account type code (next 3 digits) specifies if it’s savings, current, etc.
- Last 8 digits uniquely identify you as an account holder within that type and branch.

Why It Matters
- Use 15 digits exactly: Always share the full 15-digit number—including leading zeros if any.
- For online transfers (NEFT/RTGS/IMPS): You’ll also require the correct IFSC code—which starts with
UBIN
followed by0
and a 6-digit branch code. - Avoid remittance failures: Any mismatch in digits or IFSC can delay or reject transfers.
