Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd

Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd

Sundaram Asset Management Company Ltd., the entity behind Sundaram Mutual Funds, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sundaram Finance Limited, one of India's oldest and most renowned financial institutions. With over 20 years of fund management experience, Sundaram AMC was founded in 1996, initially co-sponsored by Sundaram Finance Limited and Stewart Newton Holdings (Mauritius). The company has a history marked by several acquisitions and changes in ownership. Sundaram Finance Ltd., its parent company, was established in 1954 with the initial goal of providing financing for passenger and commercial vehicles. It started with a paid-up capital of just ₹2 lakh. Over time, Sundaram Finance expanded its operations, going public in 1972, and ventured into areas like mutual funds, general insurance, and home and auto financing, becoming one of India’s major financial institutions with over ₹28,000 crore in assets and annual revenues of ₹5,000 crore. Sundaram AMC was created to separate Sundaram's mutual fund business from its core financing operations. Originally co-sponsored by the Newton group, Sundaram later acquired Newton's stake after it was bought by Mellon Financial Corporation in 2002. Another notable partnership was with BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNP PAM), which acquired a 49.9% stake in Sundaram AMC in 2006. However, the joint venture ended in 2010 when BNP PAM had to divest due to its acquisition of the Fortis group, as regulations prevent a company from promoting more than one mutual fund. Since then, Sundaram AMC has been fully owned by Sundaram Finance Ltd. Sundaram AMC offers a wide range of mutual funds across equity, debt, liquid, and fixed income categories. Its 21-member investment team, including fund managers, analysts, and economists, ensures high-quality service. With a strong retail presence and a loyal customer base, Sundaram AMC manages total assets of ₹56,666.81 crore, having grown at a CAGR of 17% over the past nine years. The company ranks 18th in the asset management industry and operates through 94 branches and 305 distributors. Sundaram Mutual Fund has handled over 5.6 million client folios over its history, with 13.69 million active folios as of FY18. It boasts an extensive distribution network of over 35,000 distributors. Notably, Sundaram AMC was the first to launch mutual funds focused on niche areas like Leadership, Rural India, Capex, Mid-cap, and Micro-cap sectors. Headquartered in Chennai, Sundaram Mutual Fund emphasizes customer satisfaction, supported by 93 customer care centers across India. Additionally, it has an asset management subsidiary in Singapore and a branch office in Dubai.
