SBI Funds Management Ltd

SBI Funds Management Ltd

SBI Mutual Fund Trustee Company Private Limited, established under the Trust Act of 1882, oversees the SBI Mutual Fund, one of India’s largest and oldest mutual funds. The SBI Mutual Fund is a joint venture between the State Bank of India (SBI), one of the country’s biggest and most profitable banks, and Amundi, a French asset management company. The SBI Mutual Fund was created on June 29, 1987, and incorporated on February 7, 1992. It became the second mutual fund in India, following the Unit Trust of India, which began operations in 1963. In July 2004, SBI sold a 37% stake in the fund and brought Amundi in as a partner. Amundi is a major player in asset management, formed by a collaboration between Crédit Agricole and Société Générale. SBI Mutual Fund is known for several industry firsts. It was the first to introduce a "Contra" fund, called the SBI Contra Fund. In 2013, SBI Mutual Fund expanded by acquiring Daiwa Mutual Fund, a part of Japan's Daiwa Group. Additionally, it was the first Indian mutual fund to launch an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) fund, focusing on sustainable investments. In 2015, India’s Employees’ Provident Fund invested Rs. 5,000 crore for the first time in a mutual fund through SBI MF's Sensex ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds). As of March 2024, SBI Mutual Fund manages assets worth Rs. 9.14 lakh crores. In early 2019, it surpassed Aditya Birla and HDFC Mutual Funds to become the third-largest mutual fund in India based on assets under management (AUM). The fund is registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
